Advertorial

Welcome to Thompson Jewelry: This is my story!

I was 32 when I finally gave in to the voice inside me — the one that had been whispering for years. I left behind my apartment in Brooklyn, a stable design career, and the noise of a city that never really felt like mine. I moved to northern Iceland.

People thought I was chasing a fantasy. But I wasn’t running away — I was moving toward something real. Toward silence. Toward stone. Toward the dream I had been carrying quietly for as long as I can remember: To create jewelry made from the earth itself.

Iceland captured me the first time I visited. The volcanic textures, the endless sky, the raw, elemental beauty — it felt like the world had been stripped down to its bones. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I came back. And I stayed.

I settled in a little wooden house near Rejkjavik, where the mountains meet the sea. I turned a spare room into a studio and began doing what I had always wanted: creating jewelry by hand, using only materials I found in the wild.

Lava stone. Driftwood. Basalt. Black sand. Reindeer horn. Glacier-polished quartz. Fossilized bone. Everything I use is natural, local, and shaped by time. Each piece tells a story — not just of Iceland, but of stillness, strength, and survival. Nothing here is mass-produced. No two pieces are the same. I believe beauty comes from texture, imperfection, and truth.

In the early days here, I spent a lot of time walking the land — getting to know it. That’s when I saw my first Arctic fox. A tiny flash of white fur in the distance, vanishing into the rocks. I learned later that they’re the only native land mammal in Iceland — and that their survival is under threat.

That didn’t sit right with me. I was taking so much inspiration from this land, from its textures and silence and power — I knew I had to give something back. Now, a portion of the proceeds from every piece of jewelry I sell goes to support Arctic fox conservation efforts here in Iceland. It’s not a gimmick. It’s a promise.

In the beginning, I sold a few pieces. Then someone filmed a video of my little shop and posted it online. And suddenly… people started coming.

From Poland. From France. From the U.S. They came to this quiet northern town — not just to visit Iceland, but to walk into my tiny shop, touch the pieces, hear the stories, and take home something made by hand, from stone and wind and fire. It still humbles me. Some days, I open the door and there’s a family from Texas. Other days, it’s a Parisian woman who saw my work on TikTok and booked a flight.

I have my own online shop now, and to my amazement, over 10,000 people around the world have fallen in love with my work. I still make every single piece by hand — the same way I did when I started — but now those pieces find homes in places I’ve never even been.

And what means the most to me: Together, we’ve been able to do real good for the Arctic fox. Through donations, awareness, and small actions that add up, we’ve supported the survival of one of the quietest and most magical creatures I’ve ever known. I’m endlessly grateful — for this land, for this life, and for every person who carries a piece of Iceland with them through my jewelry. Thank you for being part of the story.
