Hello, I’m Martina Thompson – a passionate knifemaker. My journey began in a small basement room where I forged my very first knife. It wasn’t perfect, but it marked the beginning of a lifelong passion.

In my early twenties, fresh out of my training as a metalworker, I ventured into the world of forging. With the simplest tools and a lot of heart, I created my first knife – a symbol of the courage to forge new paths.

At a blacksmithing course in Salem, I met Lukas. Our shared love for the craft led us to Portland, where we set up our first workshop in an old garage. It was there that we began forging our dreams – quite literally.

The journey wasn’t always easy. Prejudices, financial struggles, and personal challenges tested us along the way. But with every obstacle, our determination grew stronger – to create knives that are more than just tools – they are stories forged in steel.

Our breakthrough came when Michelin-starred chef Gordon Ramsay discovered our knives and ordered two sets. His recognition was a milestone that showed us our work was truly appreciated.

He ordered two sets – and invited me to deliver them personally. As I stood there, surrounded by gleaming kitchens and elegant plates, I realized: I had arrived. Not just anywhere – but within myself.

Each of my knives is handcrafted. I don’t use CNC machines or mass production. Just fire, steel, my hands – and what you might call intuition. Some say my blades are too beautiful to use. I say: they’re made for exactly that – for cutting, for cooking, for life.

Without my wonderful family, I wouldn’t be able to keep the business going. Everyone lends a hand and helps out – even our little one.

Time has left its mark on me, too. I can feel that I can no longer stand at the anvil from dawn till dusk every day. The hands that have shaped so many blades now need more rest.

My son won’t be able to take over the business either – he’s moving to Chicago this winter for work. And so, I’ve made a decision that hasn’t come easy: I will be closing my workshop. Not immediately, but soon. It’s time for a new chapter – and a fitting end to this journey.
