Alma's Handmade Flower Curtins
Hand-Stitched in Marietta, Ohio
Alma Tolliver, 72. Her grandmother taught her at the kitchen table, and she has worked at her mother's 1968 machine ever since. For fifty-one years she stitched altar cloths, christening blankets and wedding linens for churches and families across the county. This is her final collection of café curtains — the barn comes down in the next few weeks.
"A woman stopped at my table at a church bazaar and asked if I could make something for the window over her sink. She said the neighbours could watch her do the dishes, and the only thing that fixed it was a blind that put her in the dark all day. She called the next morning and said, 'I've stood at that sink eleven years. This morning was the first time I looked up.' I never sold a single one after that. I gave them away. These are the last."

Why This Curtain
Six Things You Won't Find on a Printed Panel
Every detail below comes out of fifty-one years of doing the same difficult thing well: working thread into cloth you can see through, without puckering it.
Handwork, Not Print
Every petal, stem, cherry and length of lace is laid into the cloth by hand and sits raised off the surface. Run your thumb across it and you feel each one. A print is ink lying on top of fabric — wash it enough times and it goes chalky and lets go at the edges. There is nothing sitting on top of this cloth. The flowers are the cloth.
Cover at the Sink, Without the Dark
A plain sheer hangs there and hides nothing. A heavy curtain hides everything, including your window. The stitching sits between the two: the pattern breaks up the line of sight, so a neighbour across the drive sees flowers and movement instead of you at the sink — while the cloth around it stays thin enough to keep the room bright.
Takes the Sun Off Your Counter
The fine voile scatters direct afternoon light instead of letting it fall straight through, so the glare comes off the countertop and the sting comes out of the room — with the blind still up. And because the cloth is denser wherever the thread lies, the pattern shades a little more than the ground around it. That is what drifts across your counter in the morning: the flowers, in shadow, moving with the sun.
Cut for the Window Over the Sink — 55″ × 24″
Store curtains come 63 or 84 inches long, worked out for a living-room window that runs nearly to the floor. Over a sink they cover the glass you wanted to look through, and the bottom sits in the basin. This one runs across the glass and stops well above the sill. Nothing hangs in the sink. The whole top of the window stays open.
Up in a Minute, on a Tension Rod
A rod pocket wide enough for a plain tension rod. No brackets, no screws, no drilling into a tiled backsplash, nothing your landlord has to be asked about. Alma has hung one in about ninety seconds while the kettle boiled — and it comes down just as fast when you want to wash it.
Washable — and It Hangs Flat Again
It's a kitchen, so it will get greasy. Take it down, warm gentle wash, hang it damp, and it drops flat by the next day — no ironing. Try that with a blind and you'll be standing there with a cloth doing one slat at a time. And polyester voile doesn't go musty over a steaming sink the way natural cloth in a damp kitchen will.
✿ Craft Note
"On a sheer, the difference between real stitching and a print is settled in about two seconds — hold the panel up to a window. Thread stands proud of the ground and reads on both faces of the cloth, and where it lies the weave is denser, so the motif casts its own shadow. A print is flat, sits on one side only, and passes light evenly across the whole panel. The hard part is doing it without puckering: on a fabric this open, tension has to be right or the ground draws in and the panel never hangs straight again. Work of this kind holds up through years of washing, because there is no layer to let go."

Where It Goes
Made For These Windows
There is only ever one size: 55 inches wide × 24 inches tall.
The mistake that sends more kitchen curtains back than anything else is measuring the glass and ordering that number. You want more width than window, not the same. Those 55 inches are meant to gather — one panel dresses a window up to roughly 36 inches wide with a proper soft fold in it. Wider than that, take two and let them meet in the middle.
Not sure? Send us the width of your window and we'll tell you. We would far rather answer an email than post a parcel back.
Quality Promise
Five Things You Get With Every Panel
90-Day Money-Back Guarantee
Hang it over your sink. Live with it through a few bright mornings and a few hot afternoons. If it isn't right — the size, the light, the stitching, the design, anything — send it back within 90 days for a full refund. No questions, no forms. Just an email to our team.
✿ A Note From the Barn
Alma finishes every panel by hand and looks it over before it ships. Slight variations in the stitching and in where a flower falls are a natural part of work done this way — no two panels come off the machine quite alike, and that is by design. The hems are turned by hand. The lace and trims are set one at a time. Voile arrives folded, so expect a few creases: hang it, and it drops flat within a day. None of this is a flaw. It is the maker's hand at work — fifty-one years of it.

After years of making things by hand, our workshop is closing. These are the last pieces we'll ever ship. Every item on this page was made slowly, carefully, and with more love than any factory could replicate. Nothing rushed. Nothing outsourced. Just real craft from real hands.
We're proud of every single one. We hope they find good homes.
When they're gone, they're gone — and so are we.

What Earl's customers are saying
Had it in the yard for about 3 weeks now and it spins in the slightest breeze. Build quality is solid — nothing rattles, nothing wobbles. I've been through 2 cheap ones off Amazon that seized up after one summer. This is a whole different ballgame. Only thing — the stake could've been maybe 4 inches longer for my taste, but you can just push it in deeper. Very happy with it.

Got this for my dad's 75th birthday. He farmed his whole life and when he unwrapped it he didn't say a word at first. Then: 'That looks just like the old Deere.' He was over the moon. It's sitting right next to his rose bed now and he tells every single person who comes over about it. Shipping was fast, packaging was solid, nothing bent. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Best gift I've given in years.

My son got me this for Father's Day. Wasn't sure about it at first — figured it was another yard gadget. But the second I held it in my hands — the weight, the coating, how clean everything is put together — you can tell right away this ain't the stuff they sell at the hardware store. Spins smooth as butter, even when there's barely any wind. It's out by my garden now and I sit with my coffee every morning just watching it. Lady next door already asked where to get one.
