Handbuilt in Macomb, Illinois

Earl Hoskins, 68. Retired farmer. Builds tractor wind spinners by hand in the workshop behind his barn. Arthritis is closing in — this is the last batch his hands will build, through the end of June.

“If every piece looks exactly the same, it’s factory-made. Mine have character. Like an old tractor — no two are ever alike.”

— Earl Hoskins, Macomb, Illinois

◇   ◆   ◇

Why This Spinner

Six Things You Won’t Find on a Big-Box Spinner

Every detail below comes out of 44 years of farming and knowing exactly what survives outside — and what falls apart after one season.

◆ Coating

Triple Powder Coating

The same finish that protects farm equipment from rust. Three coats, baked on. No peeling, no fading, no flaking — even after years of rain, frost, and blazing sun.

◆ Bearing

Sealed Precision Bearings

Not a rod rubbing in a hole. Sealed ball bearings, hand-fitted until they run smooth as butter. It turns on the slightest breeze and never squeaks or seizes.

◆ Weight

Built With Real Heft

A lightweight spinner blows over in the first fall storm. Earl’s has weight where it counts — so it stands firm through wind and weather instead of tipping over.

◆ Anchor

Storm-Tested Ground Stake

Heavy-gauge steel stake with a ground spike that drives deep. Once it’s in, it stays put — no tipping, no blowing away, no wobbling loose over the season.

◆ Design

Vintage 1960s Tractor Form

Inspired by the tractors Earl grew up on — the ones his grandfather ran. It’s nostalgia you can touch, not a generic silhouette stamped out by the thousand.

◆ Longevity

Made for Years, Not a Season

Earl’s first spinner has been outside for three years. No rust. Still spinning like day one. That’s the standard every piece has to meet before it leaves the shop.

Earl Hoskins
Earl Hoskins
68 years old · Macomb, Illinois · 44 years farming

Earl farmed the same land in Macomb for 44 years — up at five to start the tractor, last one to close the barn at night. When the land was leased out, he went to the workshop instead of sitting still, and started building small steel tractors for the wind. Every piece is welded, ground, coated, and inspected by his own hands. But arthritis is setting in, and his hands won’t let him do this much longer. What he builds through the end of June is the last of it.

— Engineer’s Note

“Most garden wind spinners use open sleeve bearings or a simple rod as a pivot. Those seize up within months from moisture and grit. Sealed ball bearings — standard in mechanical engineering — keep water and debris out permanently, so the spinner keeps turning in minimal wind for years. Paired with true powder coating instead of basic paint, that’s the difference between a one-season product and one that lasts decades.”

Dr. Robert Keller, P.E. — Materials Engineering & Corrosion Science, University of Illinois

Quality Promise

Five Things You Get With Every Spinner

Handbuilt by Earl, Start to Finish Every spinner is welded, ground, coated, and inspected by Earl himself in Macomb, Illinois. No factory, no assembly line, no shortcuts.
Triple Powder Coating — Weatherproof for Years The industrial finish used on farm equipment, applied three coats deep. No peeling, no fading, no rust — through rain, frost, and sun.
Sealed Precision Bearings — Spin Without Squeak Hand-fitted sealed ball bearings turn on the slightest breeze and stay smooth for years. No rod-in-a-hole that seizes after one rain.
Storm-Proof Ground Stake — Won’t Tip or Fly Heavy-gauge steel stake that drives deep and holds firm. Stands its ground through the kind of wind that flattens cheap spinners.
The Final Batch — No Reorders After June Earl’s arthritis is forcing him to stop. What he builds through the end of June is the last of it. Once these are gone, there’s no restock — ever.

30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee

Set it up in your yard. Watch it spin. Check the color, the weight, the finish. If you’re not convinced when it arrives — send it back within 30 days for a full refund. No forms, no questions. Just an email to our team.

A Note From the Workshop

Every spinner is a handbuilt original. Small differences in shape and color tone are a natural part of hand welding and hand coating — not flaws, but the mark of real craft. No two are exactly alike. Just like a real tractor, each one carries the hand that built it.

The Final Sale

Message from the Artist:

After years of making things by hand, our workshop is closing. These are the last pieces we'll ever ship. Every item on this page was made slowly, carefully, and with more love than any factory could replicate. Nothing rushed. Nothing outsourced. Just real craft from real hands.

We're proud of every single one. We hope they find good homes.

When they're gone, they're gone — and so are we.

800+ Happy Customers

Excellent 4.9

What Earl's customers are saying

Had it in the yard for about 3 weeks now and it spins in the slightest breeze. Build quality is solid — nothing rattles, nothing wobbles. I've been through 2 cheap ones off Amazon that seized up after one summer. This is a whole different ballgame. Only thing — the stake could've been maybe 4 inches longer for my taste, but you can just push it in deeper. Very happy with it.

Got this for my dad's 75th birthday. He farmed his whole life and when he unwrapped it he didn't say a word at first. Then: 'That looks just like the old Deere.' He was over the moon. It's sitting right next to his rose bed now and he tells every single person who comes over about it. Shipping was fast, packaging was solid, nothing bent. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Best gift I've given in years.

My son got me this for Father's Day. Wasn't sure about it at first — figured it was another yard gadget. But the second I held it in my hands — the weight, the coating, how clean everything is put together — you can tell right away this ain't the stuff they sell at the hardware store. Spins smooth as butter, even when there's barely any wind. It's out by my garden now and I sit with my coffee every morning just watching it. Lady next door already asked where to get one.
