Glenda's "To My Granddaughter" Journal
Painted at One Table Above Main Street in Galena, Illinois
Glenda Satterlee, 74. For 38 years she taught other people’s children to paint. In 2018 her oldest granddaughter got her first phone, and Glenda painted her something she could hold instead: a journal with her own words on the cover. Every cover since then she has painted by hand, one at a time. Now arthritis has taken the brush out of her hands. These are the last ones.
“Kenzie sat at my kitchen table scrolling and scrolling, and I thought, nothing she is looking at will still be there tomorrow. Everybody sends a little picture on the phone now, and it’s gone by supper. I don’t even know how to send one. So I painted her on the cover of a plain notebook and wrote down what I wanted her to remember. The inside I left empty. That part is hers.”
— Grandma GlendaGlenda Satterlee · Galena, IllinoisEverything That Arrives at Your Door
Nothing to fill out, nothing to set up. It arrives ready to give the day it shows up.
One Hand-Painted Journal
In the design you choose, with Glenda’s verse painted on the front cover.
60+ Lined Pages
Blank inside, on purpose. Room for her goals, her plans, her lists and her secrets.
Lay-Flat Spiral
Opens all the way, so she can write comfortably right to the edge of every page.
90-Day Returns
If it isn’t right for her, send it back within 90 days and get your money back.
Six Things a Slogan Notebook Doesn’t Have
Every detail below comes from 38 years of watching what children actually keep — and what ends up in a drawer.
Painted by Her Own Hand
Every cover is painted individually by Glenda in watercolor, straight onto the journal. No stock pictures, no production line — just her brush and her table.
A Verse Written for a Real Girl
Each verse was written for one of Glenda’s own granddaughters. That is why it doesn’t read like a greeting card — and why girls read it out loud.
Blank Inside, on Purpose
60+ lined pages and nothing printed on them. The words on the outside are Glenda’s. Everything inside belongs to the girl who owns it.
A Place for Goals and Plans
Her phone is always asking her to look at something. This is the one thing in her room that asks what she thinks — and keeps what she wrote down for next week.
Lies Flat, Writes to the Edge
The spiral binding opens all the way, so the page stays put on a desk, a bed or a lap while she writes.
Small Enough for a Backpack
About 5.5–5.7 × 8.3 inches, A5 journal size. It rides along to school, to practice and to Grandma’s house.
Three Granddaughters, Three Covers
Glenda painted one design for each of her girls. Pick the one that looks most like yours.
The very first cover. A girl with a crown of wildflowers, reading under the window.
A girl in a pink dress among climbing roses, with a butterfly close by.
A little girl with round glasses on a stack of books, in a meadow full of butterflies.
“Kids today live in feeds that are gone in seconds, and their attention gets pulled in a hundred directions at once. When a girl writes a goal down by hand, she has to slow down long enough to actually decide on it — and next week, it is still there for her to look at. I can’t promise that any notebook changes a child. But I can tell you which ones get kept: the ones somebody who loves her put in her hands.”

Five Things You Get With Every Journal
The same five things Glenda checked on the very first one she gave Kenzie.
90-Day Money-Back Guarantee
If the journal isn’t right for her when it arrives (the design, the size, anything at all), send it back within 90 days for a full refund. No forms, no questions. One email is enough.
“If she doesn’t love it, send it back.” — GlendaShips within 1–2 days · Free U.S. shippingEvery cover was painted by hand, one at a time, most of them in the afternoon light over Main Street. Look closely and a petal or a butterfly wing may sit a little differently from the next one. Nobody paints the same flower twice, and that is the mark of handwork, not a fault.
A tip from Glenda: write a few words of your own on the inside cover before you give it. Most girls say that is the page they keep forever.
Kenzie is twenty-one now. Her first journal is still on her nightstand, and every page is full.

Message from the Artist:
After years of making things by hand, our workshop is closing. These are the last pieces we'll ever ship. Every item on this page was made slowly, carefully, and with more love than any factory could replicate. Nothing rushed. Nothing outsourced. Just real craft from real hands.
We're proud of every single one. We hope they find good homes.
When they're gone, they're gone — and so are we.

Bought the rose garden one for my granddaughter's thirteenth. She read the cover out loud at the table, got quiet, and then hugged me for a long time. Thirteen-year-olds don't do that. It's sitting on her nightstand now with a pen right next to it.

Smaller than I expected, but the cover looks like a real painting, not a sticker. The pages are thick enough that her gel pens don't bleed through. She already wrote her goals for the school year on page one and won't let anyone read them.

My granddaughter has glasses just like the girl on the meadow cover, and she noticed it the second she opened the box. Said it looked like Grandma painted her. I didn't correct her. It came wrapped like a little present.

I'm not a computer person and my daughter had to help me order. Worth it. I wrote a little note on the inside cover before I gave it to her, and she said that page is the one she'll keep forever. A gift card would have been spent by Tuesday.

Got one for each of my three granddaughters so nobody felt left out. Each picked a different design without looking at the others. The spiral lies flat, so even my youngest, who is left-handed, can write all the way across.

My niece is seventeen and lives on her phone. She has been filling this with college lists and plans for her summer job. I caught her writing in it on the couch with the phone face down next to her. That alone was worth it.
