A note from the shop on old Route 66:

Henning Dawson has built these by hand in the same service bay outside Seligman, Arizona since the station closed for good in 2004 — the bay his father poured the concrete for in 1946. For twenty years it was the best part of his day. This winter the doctor told him to stay out of the fumes for good: six decades of gasoline, solder and enamel have caught up with his lungs. There are 88 finished pumps left in the bay. When they’re gone, that’s it — there will be no second run. Every one you take home carries a piece of a road most people have forgotten.

The GAS globe, the Retro Fuel label and the side hose are shaped and fitted by hand, then the enamel is aged so each pump looks like it sat under seventy years of desert sun.
