Lowell’s Windproof Winter Gloves
Final run · last 3,700 pairs on the shelf
“If it doesn’t go on my hand, it doesn’t go in the box.” — Lowell
43
winters on the same pattern
3
layers: windproof, fleece, sealed cuff
2
touchscreen fingertips
Made on the top floor in Gloversville
Lowell Mancuso has sewn winter gloves on the same floor of an old Bleecker Street glove works since 1983. His grandfather took the floor in 1952, in a town that once made most of America’s gloves. This pair started with a rural mail carrier whose wrists froze every time he reached into a mailbox — so Lowell closed the cuff.
The building has been sold and the floor closes on November 30. These are the last 3,700 pairs he will make. Whatever is left keeps shipping until the shelf is empty.
— Lowell
“Everybody thinks cold hands means you need a thicker glove. My grandfather used to say: keep the wrist warm and the fingers take care of themselves. So we close the cuff. Windproof outside, fleece inside, and a zip that seals the wrist. That’s the whole secret, and it’s the part everybody else leaves out.”
— Lowell Mancuso, glove maker since 1983
What arrives at your door
- 1 pair of gloves (left and right) in the color you choose
- A handwritten card from Courtney
- Pulled onto Lowell’s own hand and checked before it is boxed
Why your hands stay warm in them
No. 01
The Storm Cuff
A zip closes the cuff snug around your wrist. No gap for the wind, and no bellows effect pumping the warm air out every time you move your hand.
No. 02
Windproof, water-repellent shell
Wind is what makes hands cold. It stops at the outer layer, and light snow and drizzle bead off.
No. 03
Brushed fleece lining
Soft on the skin, holds a layer of warm air and breathes, so your hands don’t go clammy and cold.
No. 04
Warm without the bulk
Pre-curved fingers and no stiff padding. Keys, zippers, a leash clip or a car-seat buckle, without taking them off.
No. 05
Touchscreen & grip
Thumb and index finger work on your phone. The palm grips the steering wheel, the shovel and the leash.
No. 06
Easy on, easy off
Open the zip and the cuff opens wide, so the glove slides on even with cold, stiff fingers. Close it and it stays put.
An ordinary winter glove or Lowell’s?
| Ordinary glove | Lowell’s glove |
|---|---|
| Loose knit or elastic band that gaps when you reach | Zip Storm Cuff, snug around the wrist |
| Knit lets the wind straight through | Windproof softshell outer |
| Thin lining, or none at all | Brushed fleece that holds warm air |
| Thick padding and clumsy fingers | Slim, pre-curved fingers |
| Glove off to answer the phone | Touchscreen thumb and index finger |
| Smooth palm that slides on the wheel | Grip pattern across the palm |
| Off a factory line, nobody checks the fit | Pulled onto Lowell’s own hand before it is boxed |
Pick your color
Sport Black
The Sport Cut: panelled palm, extra stitching where a glove wears first, and a clip loop at the cuff.
Sky Blue
Bright and easy to spot in the snow. Grip pattern across the whole palm. Courtney’s own pair.
Rose Pink
A pink you can see from the street. Grip pattern across the whole palm. The pair the rural carrier’s granddaughter walked off with.
Ask Lowell — from the cutting table
“Will they fit me?”
They’re one size and they fit most adult hands, wrists from about 7 to 9½ inches. The zip pulls the cuff in to yours. If your hands are very small, the fingertips will have a little room. If they’re wrong, send them back.
“Can I drive in them?”
Yes. The palm grips the wheel instead of sliding, and the fingers are slim enough for the turn signal and the radio.
“Are they thick?”
No, and that’s the point. You don’t need bulk when the wind can’t get in and the cuff is closed. You need to be able to use your hands.

Ninety days to change your mind
Every pair ships with a 90-day money-back guarantee. If they’re wrong for you, just email info@cedarandtinco.com and we’ll make it right.
Good to know: Close the zip after the glove is on, not before. Hand wash cool, close the zip first, and let them air dry away from the radiator. The touchscreen tips work on most phones and tablets.

A note from the Bleecker Street floor:
Lowell Mancuso has made winter gloves on the top floor of the old glove works on Bleecker Street in Gloversville, New York since 1983 — the same floor his grandfather took in 1952. The building has been sold and is being turned into loft apartments, and Lowell has to be out by November 30. His hands are not up to starting over somewhere new. These 3,700 pairs are the last ones he will ever make. After November 30 they ship from his daughter Courtney’s garage until the shelf is empty.
When they’re gone, they’re gone.

What Lowell’s customers are saying
Bought the pink for walking out to the mailbox and now I wear them everywhere. I honestly thought pink would look cheap in person but the color is exactly like the photos, nice and bright. The zip at the wrist keeps the snow out of my sleeves, which my old knit ones never did.

My steering wheel is like ice in the morning and my hands used to ache the whole drive to church. These grip the wheel and I can still feel what I’m doing. At my age I don’t want bulky ski gloves, I want something I can actually drive in.

Our golden pulls like a freight train at 6am so I need a real grip on the leash. The palm has a rubbery texture and nothing slips. I was worried black would show every dog hair but it brushes right off.

Came packed in a plain box with tissue paper and a little handwritten note, which I did not expect at this price. The gloves feel well made, not that thin stretchy stuff from the drugstore. Stitching is neat all the way around.

I lose gloves every single winter. The little clip on the cuff hooks onto my coat zipper by the back door so they are always right there. Small thing but it’s why I went back and bought a pair for my husband.

Shoveled the front walk twice this week in heavy wet snow and my hands stayed dry inside. I didn’t think touchscreen gloves would be warm enough for a real Maine winter. They are, and the fleece inside doesn’t get clammy.
