Painted by hand in Holland, Michigan since 1981

Mina Hoekstra, 74, has spent 45 years rebuilding one thing: the little blue teapot stove from her Dutch grandmother’s kitchen. Her eyesight no longer lets her paint the fine blue lines. These are her last 212.

“Every Dutch kitchen had one. A candle under the teapot, so the tea stays warm all afternoon. In Oma’s house, it was never cold. I just wanted that smell back.”

Mina Hoekstra · Holland, Michigan

What makes Mina’s little stove different

🫖The Teapot Bowl

The little teapot on top holds the scent. Pour in a little water and add a few drops of essential oil. A few drops fill a whole room.

🕯️The Slide-Out Candle Tray

The tealight sits on a tray with a handle. Pull it out, light it, slide it back in. Your fingers never get near the flame.

🔥The Glowing Firebox

The opening in front is shaped like an old wood stove. When the candle burns, the little flame flickers inside like a real fire.

🌸The Kiln-Fired Delft Blue

Every flower is painted under the glaze and fired in the kiln. It never fades or rubs off. A damp cloth keeps it clean.

❄️Every Season

Cinnamon and cloves in winter, lavender in spring, fresh citrus in summer, apple and spice in the fall. One little stove all year.

🎁A Gift That Gets Lit

Most are bought for a mother, a sister or a friend with Dutch roots. Many families have one for every grandchild.

“In almost every Dutch kitchen there used to be a small warmer with a candle under the teapot. Most families have lost theirs. Mina’s little stove keeps that shape and turns it into an essential oil diffuser, and it works beautifully: the teapot bowl sits just high enough above the tealight that the water warms slowly and the oil scents the room for hours instead of boiling away. And her blue flowers are painted the way people in Friesland painted them a hundred years ago.”

Why Mina’s little stove lasts

  • Real glazed ceramic. Solid and heavy, not plastic or thin metal.
  • Painted by hand. Every flower and every blue line, one brushstroke at a time.
  • Fired twice. Once to harden the clay, once to seal the blue under the glaze.
  • Stands steady. A wide, flat base that doesn’t wobble on a windowsill.
  • Made to be lit. Mina’s own stove has been lit almost every evening since 1982.
❤️ 30-day money-back guarantee

If it doesn’t make your home feel warmer, one email to info@cedarandtinco.com is enough. Mina would rather have it back than have it sit unlit in a cupboard.

Good to know: Every stove is painted by hand, so the flowers differ a little from piece to piece. No two are exactly alike. Use a standard tealight, and never leave a burning candle alone.

The Last Firing

A note from Holland, Michigan:

Mina Hoekstra has made her little teapot stoves in the basement under her house since 1981. Her grandmother Grietje brought one from Friesland in 1947 and kept her tea warm on it every afternoon at four. When it was sold for two dollars at an estate sale, Mina learned pottery to make it again. Every stove is shaped by hand, and every blue flower and line is painted with a fine brush — about six hours of work per stove. About 5,800 stoves later, her eyesight no longer lets her paint the fine lines. 212 stoves are left from her final firing. When they are gone, there will be no more.

How is it made?

Mina shapes each stove and its little teapot by hand and fires them once. Then she paints every flower, leaf and blue line with a fine brush, seals it under the glaze and fires it a second time — about six hours of work per stove. That is why no two stoves look exactly alike.
