Ursula’s Quilted Christmas Tote Set
A tote and its matching pouch · about 310 sets left“I’ve never made a tote without its little sister.”
– Ursula Garbutt, 71, after 57 Christmases at the machine
Made in an old stone byre in the Yorkshire Dales
Behind Ursula Garbutt’s farmhouse near Hawes stands a little stone byre that once housed the cows in winter. For 57 years it has been her sewing room. It is where every one of these sets has been made – one at a time, at the 1978 Singer her late husband Wilf bought at a farm sale the summer they married.
It started at the Christmas fair at her chapel, when Ursula was fourteen. She sewed the big quilted totes. Her mother couldn’t bear to waste the leftover piece of the panel, so she turned it into a small zip pouch. The women at the fair wouldn’t take one without the other – and Ursula has made them as a pair ever since.
On 18 December 2026, the byre closes for good. The sets on this page are the last ones. Her grandchildren Isla and Jamie pack and send out every order.

Six things that make it Ursula’s
No. 01
Always a set of two
Tote and pouch come from the same design, so they always belong together – on the shoulder or tucked inside.
No. 02
Three real layers
Outer fabric, soft wadding and lining, quilted all the way through. That’s why the tote keeps its shape when it’s full.
No. 03
A picture you can feel
The lines of the Christmas scene are quilted, so they rise off the fabric. Run your fingers over it – it isn’t a flat print.
No. 04
Handles that hold
Padded and quilted, sewn in twice at the top edge – the spot where most bags give out first.
No. 05
Big enough for Christmas
About 43 cm wide with a 14 cm base – wrapped presents, two biscuit tins, a casserole dish or a laptop and a book.
No. 06
The very last of them
About 310 sets remain. The sewing room closes on 18 December, and there will be no reorders.
How people use their set
The tote
- Presents to Nan’s on Christmas Day
- Biscuit tins for the street
- The casserole for the bring-and-share
- The shopping, library books, the church bag
The pouch
- Keys, lipstick and reading glasses
- Gift tags, tape and ribbon
- Knitting needles and a tape measure
- A wash bag for the Christmas trip
Most customers tell Ursula the same thing: the set was supposed to come out in December. It never went back in the cupboard.
Perfect for
Ursula’s set vs. the printed ones online
| Ursula’s set | Typical “quilted” tote | |
|---|---|---|
| The picture | Quilted, raised, you can feel it | Printed flat, “stitches” are ink |
| The layers | Outer fabric, wadding and lining | One thin sheet |
| Standing up | Keeps its shape on its own | Slumps when you fill it |
| The handles | Padded, sewn in twice | Single strap, often pulls loose |
| The pouch | Matching, from the same panel | None |
| Who made it | One quilter in Hawes, North Yorkshire | A factory line |
Questions people ask Isla
Do I get both pieces?
Yes. Every order is a set: one large quilted tote and one matching zip pouch in the design you choose.
Is the tote big enough for real presents?
Yes. At about 43 cm wide and 38 cm tall with a 14 cm base, it takes several wrapped presents, two biscuit tins or a casserole dish. Taller presents simply stand up out of the top.
Which design should I pick?
Her own favourite is the Cardinal. The two Gingerbread designs are the kitchen and baking-day choice, and the Navy designs are the ones people carry all winter long.
When will it be dispatched?
Within 1–2 working days, tracked. Isla and Jamie keep sending sets out after the sewing room closes, for as long as sets are left.
Is this really the last of them?
Yes. Ursula has no apprentice, and there will be no reorders once these sets are gone.
Ursula’s 90-day money-back guarantee
“These sets should only go home with people who’ll really love carrying them.”
Fill it with presents, carry it to the Christmas Eve service, take it to work. If you don’t love it, send it back within 90 days and get your money back. No questions asked – just email info@cedarandtinco.com.
Care & use
Outside: spot-clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then let it air dry standing up. Please don’t put it in the tumble dryer.
Inside: shake it out and wipe the lining with a damp cloth.
Between seasons: most people never put it away. If you do, store the pouch inside the tote and keep it upright in a dry cupboard.

What Ursula's customers are saying
Carried the cardinal one round to my daughter’s on Christmas Day, stuffed with presents, and the little pouch had all the tags and sellotape in it. It’s proper thick quilting, not one of those printed ones. Arrived in four days, beautifully packed.

I was a bit wary ordering online but it’s even nicer in the flesh. The two snowmen stand up off the fabric and you can feel every stitch. The colours are exactly as in the photos.

Valerie H., Harrogate
Bought the lavender one for myself and I’m not sorry. It stands up on its own on the settee without flopping over, and the pouch zips shut properly. Worth every penny.

Janice M., York
Carried the gingerbread tote up my sister’s path on Christmas Eve, full to the brim, and the handles didn’t budge. My husband had to take a photo because she wouldn’t stop asking where I got it.

Gillian F., Skipton
The navy snowman one lives on the hall bench now with my knitting in it, and the pouch is in my handbag with my keys and glasses. I don’t think it’s going back in the cupboard after Christmas.

Frances D., Ludlow
Ordered two sets as presents and kept the brown gingerbread one for myself. Got a little mark on it on wrapping day and it came straight off with a damp cloth. You just don’t see handwork like this any more.

Ursula quilts every set on her 1978 Singer in the old stone byre behind her farmhouse near Hawes, North Yorkshire. Three layers — outer fabric, wadding and lining — are quilted all the way through, and every tote comes with a matching zip pouch cut from the same design. Seven designs.
